Salad Spinner...$30...Well Worth It!!!

I wanted to try something a little different.  Alright, really it's a lot different, compared to what I usually write.  I'm writing a review of the OXO salad spinner.  I had really wanted to buy a salad spinner, but didn't want to spend $30 on it.  I mean, come on, we lived without the salad spinner for years and have been just fine, but unless you patted dry all of your lettuce leaves or laid them out on paper towels to dry, you were getting less than fresh tasting lettuce.  It would be soggy and start to wilt.  Then I was watching Jamie Oliver on television and he said that if you put your lettuce in a kitchen towel, and swung it around, you would get a lot of the water off...and he was right!  And in turn, I got nice, dryer lettuce, and water all over my kitchen!!!  (I'm not sure where I expected the water to go, silly me!!!)  I started making salads everyday...I was going to make the investment on a salad spinner...$30, WELL WORTH IT!!!  If you eat salad often, this is seriously the way to go.  I couldn't believe the difference in my salad alone.  

I tear the lettuce into the white "colander".  Then rinse.  Place the colander into the clear bowl and put on the lid.  There is a release button that pops up and it's just like a toy that you would play with when you were little.  The faster you press the top down, the faster the bowl spins!  Take off the lid.  Dump water from clear bowl that has come out of the lettuce, which sometimes even has a green tint!  Repeat as often as you see necessary.  I usually do it twice.  I also store the lettuce in it.  It keeps it so fresh and crispy...I have tested it up to two weeks, and seriously, as fresh as day 1.   

I purchased my salad spinner at Target.  (Who doesn't live in Target???)  But on a rare trip into Bed, Bath, & Beyond, where I find myself when looking for some obscure item, I saw a different salad spinner in different colors being sold for $15!!!  I obviously don't know how well other brands work, but this one...WORTH IT!!!
